Does it say anything about it stopping slip and hard shifting, and that it cleans and lubricates sticking valves for proper shifting? If so, that is snake oil. Or, does it say it is ATF? At any rate, the C4's use only Type F tranny fluid, and if the bottle doesn't say that, I wouldn't use it.

It says something about sticking to the power bands to prevent hard shifting, but it won't work if there is a true internal breakdown or broken bands. I had to add some to my C4. I was about 2 QTs. low so I added Ford type F and lucas 1 qt each. Drove it for about 2 months straight after that with no problems and just had it runnig before I took the head off and it drove and shifted fine. I don't blame you, but for 8 bux, it's a quick fix for a hard shift. If it don't work, you need to have service done. I beat on my tranny a bit so first to second is a hrad shift. I have to find out about fixing that. [] and take better care of it this time. It's okay tho cause I can claim some of it as a write off. Same with my suspension and paint. I'm gonna do the same with the stang, but I have to actually use it for business stuff so it's gotta be drivable before I can write anything for it off.

The Lucas won't hurt anything, and it may even miraculously make it shift smoother. I used it in my pickup because I had a hard shift from 2nd to 3rd, and it didn't change a thing. I wound up with a new tranny.

Yeah. That's the probelm I have in the Buick. I beat on a rebuilt tranny cause I was dumb (and auto tranny's suck!!!) and now from first to second there is a hard shift, both up and down shifting. My 86 was worn due to lack of fluid and putting the lucas in sorted that problem out. It all depends no the extent of the problem. A friend of mine from work had a similar problem in his celebrity and I told him about the Lucas fluid. He used it and said "That s*** was thick as hell and took forever to pour, but, damn, did it fix the problem!"

Yeah, it's kinda like motor honey. I would not use it in a transmission that was shifting properly though. It really is just snake oil kinda like Motor honey. If there is a hard shifting going on, the tranny needs to be overhauled.

I agree 100%, but when you're poor like me [] you gotta go the inexpensive route.

You coulda got a tranny rebuild kit for the price of that tat....and probably a book that gives you the info you need to rebuild it, too.

I didn't have any car problems when I got that or any of my other tattoos. I don't need to rebuild my tranny but when I can, I will take it somewhere. No experiance + ability < experiance + a little more cash outta pocket. From a financial standpoint (and since I am a Financial Advisor I tend to look at things in this prospective), it's not a good financial choice for me to try and do it myself. I have the tools and can read and follow a manual, but I can't afford to have my car laid up in the front yard for too long and I have never done anything with a tranny before. It would make more sense for me to just bring it to the Lee Myles up the road and have it done in like a day and done right the first time by people who do it for a living, than for me to risk messing something up and having to fix more than the original problem.

I like my trans to shift hard. Not so much it rattles the windows, I just dont want it slipping. I want it to shift quickly and efficiently. That is what a shift kit is supposed to do. Never had a problem with Fords not shifting hard enough, well except with the AOD, they are supposed to shift easy. Its tough to tell what gear they are in on test drives.

As for needing rebuilt, well lots of things point to that, but the main one is slipping. Engine freewheels for a bit than bang, thats bad. It slides into gear thats bad. Doesnt hold power and engine freewheels instead of accelerating thats bad.

The 3 speeds are relatively easy to rebuild/overhaul, almost anyone could do it if they know what to do and how it goes together.

I dont use additives, but I put Type F in my GM transmissions. Makes the shift much firmer and no it doesn hurt anything. But DONT put Dexron of any type in a trans that uses Type F. It wont like it much.. it will slip pretty bad.

I like to feel the automatic shift in my pickup, and I guess "hard" is not the right term to use for what I want to feel. I drive with the pedal to the metal when taking off and letting the auto shift gears, and this thing would literally jolt your head back to the rear window when it shifted and I could hear a large loud "bang." Yeah, it was toast. Snake oil was not going to help that. A few thou later all is good.
