Where the heck to I put the transmission fluid


......and the oil?

I've got an I6 66 with the Cruise o matic--lolz

 

Well, let me take the honors.




Now, the tranny fluid goes in the tranny and the oil goes in the motor.

You should have a little dipstick one one (or both sides of the engine. If it's not clearly marked "trans" DO NOT PUT THE TRANS FLUID THERE!!!

If you have no clear markings, take the dipstick out (not you, the other dipstick) and see what color the fluid is. The tranny fluid would be red and oil, brownish. For the tranny you'll need a funnel with a tip small enough to fit inthe tube the stick comes out of. the oil will pour right in at the top of the motor. you should have a breether valve and an oil cap, you can fill at either one.

haha, i'm so used to checking the dipstick on my other cars, and then putting the fluid down some other hole

--it makes so much sense.... use the same hole where u check the fluids

Tranny fluid for an auto goes into the dipstick...pretty much like 99.99% of all autos on the road.

The engine oil goes in a hole either in the valve cover or a separate cap specifically for that purpose.

 

I know its not a V8 in your car, but here is where the trans dipstick is on nearly every american built rear drive car. I havent seen any old ones with stock dipsticks that say TRANS FLUID on the outside, but quite a few say something about ADD and FULL WHEN HOT on the tip of the tick where you read it.

Look for a similar cap to put oil in on your engine. It will be on top, just fill there.

Todd, that is about the most butt ugly engine I guess I have ever seen. Looks like it was retrieved from the bottom a lake after being there for 20 years. Must have been one great engine at one time though with dual quads.

 

Before you put in any Trans Fluid or engine oil you first check to see if it need it

So learn that first

Secondly NEVER OVER FILL either---NEVER

Thirdly if the Transmission needs fluid, find out why. The engine will occasionly need oil but the transmission needs fluid ONLY if it leaks out.

And when you go to fill it (after fixing the leak(s), use Lucas trans fluid.

 

Does Lucas sell a Type F automatic transmission fluid? I thought they only made the "transmission stop leak" and other snake oils.

 

I think it's universal. I got a bottle in the buick, lemme go check. I'll let you all know what it says.


EDIT: it says on the bottle, Compatable with all transmission types and fluids.
