Engine Build
align-honed the block and bored it .060-inch over to correct damage done by a couple of broken piston rings. World Windsor Jr. Lite cylinder heads, Comp Pro Magnum roller rockers, a Crane roller lifter retrofit kit and hydraulic roller camshaft, an MSD 6AL ignition box and MSD distributor, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Edelbrock 500-cfm carburetor, Carter fuel pump, Hooker Super Comp ceramic-coated headers, a Summit turbo exhaust system and Emerald torque converter with a 2,400-rpm stall speed.
Any suggestions- Im still learning past the "bolt on power" stage that im getting away from with my other newer stangs i use to own --MC
You need to get out a chunk of clean paper and write down what you want at the end of the build. Original? Around 300 ponies? 400 Ponies? And how are you going to be driving the car most of the time. Don't even worry about good gas mileage. That ain't gonna happen.
Then, after you decide what you want in the engine, then start jotting down what all the parts will cost. Then, see if you can afford the dream. If not, then back down some. Horsepower costs money. And a little more horsepower sometimes costs you a whole lot more.

I know what you mean, but i guess i was looking for some specs on what YOU have in your 66 and what you might have done different, Im used to having a stock SOHC fuel injected 4.6, Just pick out what SuperCharger you want and go. ive never had to get aggressive in chosing parts from scratch. It will be my daily driver but also want around 300 ponies...It's just a hard question i guess...But thanks for the input

I think the easiest thing for you would be to pick a power range (i.e. 300, 350, 400, 500?!?) and then go with a crate engine setup that will fulfill that. The most important thing about an engine build is matching the internals, which for the most part, crates do fairly well. Ford is pretty good about recommending the bolt on stuff that should go with your crate when you order it, so long as you tell them what kind of build you are going after.

Not a hard question at all, now that we have it narrowed down to 300 ponies. Start by replacing the stock intake manifold with a Weiand Stealth dual plane, or an Edelbrock RPM, then add a decent 4 barrel carb with about 5-6 hundred CFM like an Edelbrock, then get a good set of long tube headers like Hedman's or JBA's, then have a 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust with an X pipe. Add a mild cam, and electronic ignition. MSD is a good set-up. That will get you in the 300 HP range. If you want more, then you will need to change out the stock heads to aluminum aftermarket heads such as AFR (Air Flow Research), and a little wilder cam.
65mojoe-Just want to say diggin your pony, when i pictured what i wanted my turnout to be thats prety much what i thought of, Broke the mold with that one,[sm=shades.gif]...mine is going to be just a little darker-MC
Thanks guys...that what i needed a little "build-up basics 101"if i may, i was going to be all motor but a beefy 302 w/ a nitrous shot sounds quite attractive i must say...

Building one up for my 67 now.. I have a 1988 engine that is not bored (Although mileage looks to be quite high).. b303 cam and springs.. ported heads and intake, underdrive pulley s(Not that I think they do anything, but they were there to begin with), and open exhaust. I don't think it's going to be noticeably over 225HP, but, heres to hoping.. Oh wait, it's not going to last longer than 1 minute because I can't find a tool around here to take the cylinder ridge down and I put new rings in it.. Hers to hopin!
