I would like to know if anyone knows why 289's where 2 different colors in 65
some had gold air cleaner, valve covers & black block & some where all blue
Does anyone know the difference.
nothing, the gold was early 65 if memory serves me right and the change to corporate blue was just that a branding descision, god my spelling sucks 2day
I have a 65 someone had painted the engine gold when I had cleaned off the gold paint the engine was blue, so was it later in 65-66 when they went to the gold.
My build date is December of 64, and I have the gold. I thought all 65's were gold valve covers and air cleaner, then Ford went with corpoarate blue for the 66 models. Now, if the 289 is a D code they used on the 64 1/2's that would be blue.
289's
64-65's - black block, heads w/gold cleaner and covers
66 and some late 65's - ford corp. blue block, heads, air cleaner and covers
i think the I6's were different
I didn't know that about the late 65's Matt. Thanks for the info. However, I beg to differ with you regarding the 64 1/2 260 V8. It was blue. This may clear up any confusion. http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/...aints_engines/
