Sanding
I used this Sanding wheel 60 and it went to bare metal through primer, then green, then like maroon or somthing. but i left tiny scratches ,then i used some Rustoleum sandable primer (aresol) just to see the effect and could see the sratches under the primer,,never done it before just wondering is this right? This is my plan, (Bare metal, primer, filler, seal primer, base, clear) Am I right?
FYI the October issue of HotRod has some good sanding tips in it. Might be able to find them on the website now. Great info on building primers, sealers, etch, paint companies, the works.. yeah its brief, but it answers some questions.
could but bare metal will start to surface rust, could spray can prime it then when you are ready to paint sand off all of the primer and reprime and paint, or go to a paint quality paint store alot of major paint suppliers are doing their quality automotive primers in a can for small spot in jobs. look into it, i know sikkens has some for about 20.00 a can and they come in 6 different popular tintable primer colors
the whole part wont be filler .....errrrr i hope not anyways......but filler exposed to moisture will overtime start to absorb the moister, but if you put a cheap primer on it you will have to sand it off but it should be protected
- sand to metal
- spray rust converter
- spray etch primer
- do bodywork
- use primer/filler
- sealer
- basecoat
- clearcoat
use epoxy etch primer on the bare metal for maximum adhesion and then start the process
