Default 1966 coupe owner needs some help!

Hello Classic Mustang Owners,
I just joined this forum today and it really looks like a great way to meet fellow Mustang enthusiasts and get some good resoration tips. I have a 1966 Coupe, straight 6, very basic car that I've owned since I was 15 (14 years ago). Its been all over the country with me but now has been garage bound for a few years and needs a pretty thorough restoration to get it back on the road safely. Its an absolutely great car that I've had almost half of my life now, took girls on dates and went to all my homecomings and proms in, its something that I'd love to get back into running shape (I'm never going to sell her!). I'm an officer in the Coast Guard and just transfered here last year, I don't really know the area that well and have about a year to work on the car before I'll probably transfer again.

I'm not looking to get the car up to show quality, but it does need some underbody, body, suspension work, and she could use a new paint job. The engine will start with some coaxing. I'm able to do some of the engine work and can do the basic interior and minor jobs, but I'll really need some help with the big stuff. I was hoping that some of you out there could recommend a good Mustang Shop to take the car to where they'll know what it needs and give me a fair price for the parts and work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

you might want to checkout local mustang clubs. it looks like you're in florida. i'd start here: http://www.mustang.org/regional_clubs.cfm?state=FL

Matt....Welcome to the Classic Section of MustangForums.com. We have a ton of information in the FAQ section you can use for any and all restoration or maintenance portions of your 66. https://mustangforums.com/m_732643/tm.htm
Also, we have some pretty smart and experienced members here who can answer just about any question you may have with your restoration of your Mustang. Ask away. However, you will need to take it one step at a time, in that there are so many parts and procedures involved with restoring these beauties. So, what is your first question?

Sorry, I'm down in St Petersburg, FL. I was thinking this was a Tampa site, I didn't realize this is THE site. Thanks for the advice, I got in touch with Mustang Club of Tampa tonight and they have me pointed in the right direction. I'm going to contact some restoration shops tomorrow and get some quotes. Time to break out the credit card!!!
