Bare Metal
i stripped my fender of all paint....and everyone says to fill first then use self etching primer....i now have both but its hard to see all the nicks and dents on the bare meta....what do you guys think about doing the nicks and dents that i can see on the bare metal with filler, then using the etching primer....then if theres anywhere i missed, fill over that??? is that okay to do???
I'm sure there is more than one way to do it but if it were my fender I would strip the fender to bare metal then shoot it with a direct to metal epoxy primer sealer. Then you can fill it, block it, and spray it with a high build primer.
i would sparay it with two caoats of the self etch (with the propr flast time in between let it flash(check the can then go ahead and spray it with the sandable/high build a few coats remeber the flast time(then i would take some black paint and dust over that as a guide coat then block sand the fender with 180-220 grit paper this will reveal the highs and lows visually then u can go from there if its a bad dent take it to the metal and appy filler if its very shallow u can scuff it up with some 80 grit ,ake sure to do it past the dent so u can feather the filler out
