dashboard removal

Default dashboard removal

Anybody know how to get a dashboard out of a 65 coupe? I really want to re-wire but don't really know the details on how to get this hunk of metal out of there. Thanks

The dashboard on top is easily removed, the dash panel is welded to the car and not intended to be removed.

Well i want to get the wiring harness out and either inspect and re-wire or completely replace it. So how do I get the top of it off?

Let's get our terminology straight. The dash pad is the soft vinyl thing that is on top of your dash. Your dash is welded to the frame, and not going to come out. Taking off the dash pad will do nothing to help you get to those wires. You just have to rewire it with the dash on.

maybe he means the instrument cluster and bezel..??.. that's about the only way to get to the wiring

So you guys are telling me that the only way to get to the wiring is to remove the instrument cluster? That seems like an awfully small hole to work with. I guess you get what you get. Oh well. Thanks.

By the time you remove the radio, ash tray, heater box and duct work, heater control cables, glove box and instrument cluster you will have more space to work than you realize.

oh yeah, and depending on the type of seats you have bucket/aftermarket/bench, you may want to remove those too. I have a bench in the front, so I kind of lay on that to get under the dash to any wiring I can't see from the dash, last time I did work under there I removed my shifter to give me a little more wiggle room.
