Default 64 1/2 Mustang

Hey guys! I'm new to the forum on this part I have a 06 mustang and I just bought me a 64 and a half so few questions for you. What other parts will interchange as far as year wise? I know where a good 65 and 66 parts car is, but I won't to know which one would be best to buy

Either one. If your 64 is a V8, you most likely have a 260 or a 289 D code, so those engines will have some different parts than 289 C or A code. If you have a 6 banger, it is a 170, whereas the 65 and 66 have 200 I6's in them. Chedk your VIN to make sure your car is a 64 1/2. If the build date is before August 1 of 64, then it is. If after August 1, it is a 65.

Cool man, I'm a fellow 64 1/2 owner.

Like Soaring said, verify it by checking out the VIN numbers.

If you are not super sure, I recommend you getting a catalog from Mustang Plus, near the back of the catalog, there's all you need to know about the VIN numbers and differences between a 64 & 65 models.

Here's a quick check:

After the first FOUR numbers of your VIN, check the letter (fifth in line), if it's either A, C, T, it is a 65, if it has either D, F, U, it's a 64.

Now I'm a bit confused if that fifth letter says K, perhaps Soaring can tell us.

You can also check where the car was assembled by the very first letter after the very first number in your VIN...F (Dearborn, Mich), R (San Jose, Ca), and T (Metuchen, NJ).

The K code Hipo engine came out in July of '64. If it is a K code.....$$$$$$$$

The D code is a low compression engine, but great for lugging around in high gear.

This is true no matter which engine: if it's a Dearborn car (2nd VIN character of "F") and the VIN sequence number is 250000 or greater, it's a '65. If the sequence number is below 250000, it's a '64.5.

If it's a San Jose car (2nd VIN character of "R") and the VIN sequence number is 125000 or greater, it's a '65. If the sequence number is below 125000, it's a '64.5.

No '64.5 cars made in the Metuchen factory (2nd VIN character of "T").
