Default 5 Lug Axles 1968

I would like to know, can I put 5 lug axles into my 7 1/4 rear end ( 1968 ) mustang. I'm not switching motors,But I would like to use 5 lug wheels, as I am already in the process of changing over to 5 lug disc brakes in the front. any suggestions, what about splines ? what should I look for?

I probably should have mentioned that I'm keeping the I 6 in the car, installed a set of disk brake spindles and calipers from a 68 cougar everything up front is great, new upper and lower control arms, all steering components. Now I would like to add axles to the rearend, any How to sites out there, and last but not least will regular 5 lug axles from a 8 in or 9 in rear fit into my 7 1/4 stock rear end(Mustang) 1968?

I don't have the answer, because I am not sure any of us on this board would even recommend that. However, it would seem feasible because both axles are 28 spline count with small bearings. However, I am not sure if the pinion gear will match up with the new axle. The best thing you could do would be to put an 8" rear end in there with 5 bolt axles so that everything fits properly. There are a lot of cars and trucks you could rob a rear from at a junk yard. The 7.5 rear you have is weak at best, so an upgrade to an 8" rear would be in your favor.
