Default Automatic Overdrive Tranny

My 68 fastback originally came with a C4 and well it's hooped. Was wondering if anybody knows if I can swap an auto overdrive like the E4OD in it's place. I'm already in the process of changing the 302 to a stroked 351 Windsor. I'm sure I'd have to change my drive-shaft length but other than that??? Anyone know which overdrive would be the one to get? I'm sure you may be thinking just go to a tremek 5 speed manual and I've been thinking the same thing but well I'm not sure. Anyway, if anyone's got any info on the overdrive swap it sure would be appreciated.

Is that the AOD (non-electronic trans) that Ford used from 81-93? I understand now that the E4OD is an electric computer controlled version of the AOD. Does the 87-93 mutang trany bolt up to the 351 then? I would have to have it beefed up internally then I assume??

yeah the 87-93 mustang uses the aod(non electronic) the aode is the computer version like the 94 and up stangs the e40d is a truck tranny if im not mistake?

the aod is fine behind a stock 351 but if ur stroking it and ur not gonna want a junkyard tranny thats gonna be short on life go ahead and spend the mony ona performance automatic tranny or a TCI, etc. its a direct bolt on with the 351 i beileve the flywheel ull need is the 71-73 351c flywheel from a car that used the fmx(will have the correct tooth count and bolt pattern for the aod and the right balance for the 351) ull need an adapter tranny crossmemeber and have to get the driveshaft shortened 1 inch and ull have to get a kit to hook up the t.v. cable(if u dont the tranny will burn up, it controls line pressure)

I'm installing a 4R70W into my 67, behind a 351.
Better gear ratios and stronger than an AOD

yup but the 4r70w is essentially an AODE with some better gearing and better internals for longer life and better durability
