Default '69 wheel/tires

Hi,
I would like to run the Wheel Vintiques 15x8 Magnum 500's (4.5" backspace) on my '69 Mustang. Does anyone know if 275/50/15 BFG T/A Radials will work ok on the rear? Thanks!

the wheels will work fine, but the 50s might be too wide for the 8" rim. better either get a 10" rim or go with a little narrower tire. another thing! i had 10" rims with 295-50s on the back of this 69 and i had to use air shocks to keep them from rubbing.

Thanks for the info. According to BFG you can run the 275's on a 7.5 to 9.5 inch rim, so the 15x8's should be ok in that respect. I was more concerned about the rubbing the outside fender wall.

Don't worry to much about the number on the sidewall....worry about where the rubber meets the road.

Sure...the 275 looks fatter than a 255....

And has a wider section width

255: http://www.dodgestang.com/DR/275-5.jpg

But you are sacrificing it all when you put it on an 8 inch rim

275 on an 8 inch rim contact patch about 8 inches:

The only reason I have a 275 mounted on a 8 inch rim, is becuase I know it 'shrinks' the section width slightly on an 8 inch rim and on the 65/6 mustangs there is not alot of room and they are drag radials so I get the sticky compound benefit (I also get the tires for a song )

Thanks, did the 275's on the 8 inch rim rub your Mustang anywhere...any need to roll the fenders?

I own a 65...so my response is meaningless....later models have more room....I can only use the 275 on the drag stip.
