Default Price Estimate

Recently ran across this:

A guy at work is trying to convince his wife to get rid of her '64 or '65 coupe... She's the original owner... He thinks the engine isn't original but it is a 289... From what he's said, I'm guessing everthing else is original... Hasn't been registered or run since '89 but has been garage kept (thus the get rid of thing)... He says it's in decent shape but definately not show room... I'm thinking it's definately a resto but not an overhaul... I've been looking for a resto for awhile, but most of what I've found is already or close to complete... I know the details are sketchy, but the guy is a "put the gas in and turn the key type"...

Any ball park price estimates???

Thanks in advance!!!

get it for as cheep as possible because the money that you save can go back into the car and get it running tip top cause you don't want to run that gas in there

5K would be a fair price, but try to haggle. Ask him what he wants.

Any kind of pics or VIN numbers would go a long way.

Try to snap a few pics and let us see them.

If its mostly rust free, I would also say go as high as 5000.

If it's a rust bucket, pass.

However, keep this in mind, restoring it is going to be a LOT more than the price of the car itself, you have been warned.

Cant emphasize that enough imho.. and some of us tend to do more work ourselves to save money, and it still costs a fortune for all the little stuff, and the big stuff you need.

Isnt it tough to understand guys who dont know or care about cars, except as a way to get to work? Whats he drive, an Element or a Scion? Probably an Explorer or a Dakota.. lol..

Yeah, I have spent almost twice as much as the price I paid for mine. In fact, I paid the same price for a paint job as I did the car.

yea I paid $4000 for mine 8 years ago and if I only do what I have priced already I will be about $32000 when I'm done, but I will never sell it at any price.

Thanks for the replies... Hopefully going to take a look at it this weekend, will try to get some pics and post them soon... Well aware of the money pit thing, probably end up selling my '90 (will break my heart, had it 13 years) for some extra money to get started on it with... Always wanted an early model though...
