Default Inlet Manifold

Hi all

I'm from Australia and I'm currently building a 69 BOSS 302 Historic Racing car and I'm in need of you help!

I have a sportsman Windsor Block fitted with Cleavland 4v cylinder heads and I'm looking for a single plane manifold to run a 4 barrel holly.
I read an article in a Mustang Magazine once about a company that was making them. Can anyone tell me the name of that company or know of other options I have!

Your help is much appreciated!!

Thanks

Stuart

Unless you have a very strong racing engine, you may want to rethink that single plane idea. The disadvantage to a single-plane is that it can contribute to soggy throttle response at lower rpm because the large volume of the chamber allows mixture velocity to drop below optimum. When mixture velocity drops, the fuel in the mixture tends to come out of suspension and can form pools on the manifold floor. This condition can cause lean cylinders, and hence power loss.
On a dual-plane intake, which is a better choice for street use, the plenum chamber is divided in half all of the way up to the base plate of the carb. The floor of the chamber is further divided into two different levels. The advantage to this arrangement is that chamber volume is cut in half with respect to any given cylinder. This helps keep mixture velocity up, resulting in crisp throttle response and reducing the danger of pooling.
Weiand makes both the single and dual plane manifolds. Give them a shout.

Hi Hornblower

Thanks for your reply. The engine I am building is a full on race engine with light weight crank racing rods and pistons, roller cam etc.

In Australia in Historic racing we are allowed to build race cars from the ground up. That is they don't have to be the original race car. It is very similar to your Historic Trans Am series. But as I say it is all built up from a street car. Its rev range will be from 5500 rpm up to 8000rpm. So the manifold I am looking for is high rise single plane design to suit 302 Windsor block with Cleavland 4v heads. I believe they call this a Cleavor engine or what is basically a BOSS 302. Companies like Edelbrock and Weinand don't seem to make one to suit this configuration.

Thanks in advance

Stuart
