Default Rack & Pinion

Anyone install the new Flaming River rack and pinion kit into their classic stang yet?

Why not just put a stock manual rack in? Im sure that was a factory option that year, unlike the newer stangs which is why the kit was produced

There was no stock rack in 1969, just the gearbox and linkage type, with a 'rag joint' in between that and the steering column shaft. Stuff gets old and loose....

Okay, since nobody bit...I am in the process of installing the flaming river R&P kit designed for headers on a small block. Guess what? It doesn't fit...the pinion shaft ended up a half inch away from one header pipe and dead smack in the middle. No room for the U-joint. They offer a big block kit that lowers the rack by 3 inches, no guarantee to fix my problem, but guaranteed to reduce ground clearance by 3 inches! I'm not bashing them, just wanted to let others know of potential challenges. Fortunately, my bro-in-law offered to mod the header tube by rerouting it outboard, this weekend. I hope it works, cause it looks like a sweet package. All that old wiggly stuff replaced by a modern lightweight setup that includes a tilt column!

Update; successful installation and alignment. First drive? Awesome, no play in steering wheel whatsover. Not cheap or easy, but highly recommended!

Final update, I hope. Earlier I said I wasn't bashing Flaming River...but now after spending more time and money to make the kit fit, that should have fit, that I paid extra for so it would fit...they won't refund the difference on the left over parts that were supposed to make it fit. Got that? I have useless parts and and extra bill because their stuff did not work as advertised. Buyer beware! They sell you stuff you don't need and don't refund the difference on the parts you did not use or even open, and their stuff is not bolt in as advertised...I am bashing them for sure.[:@]
