I have a similar craaftsman and it works well for everything I have used it for at this point. Have not sprayed paint with it yet though. I also bought a combop kit at sear with an 1/2 impact gun, 3/8 socket wrench and air hammer. they seem to be pretty good quality and it was $99 for the set. What ever you do, just make sure you oil your tools on a regular basis. And, get a good water separater.
Good luck.

I am thinking about getting that model from Sears. How does it hold up against a DA sander?

well, i dont know yet since i don't have a DA but i should have one today or tomorrow probably....im sure it will work, just need the motor to kick in after a while....it all depends on the DA in question i think because they vary in air consumption....i think its prob going to be fine if you don't have to bust out an entire car in like an hour or something....im have all the time in the world more or less so im not that worried....

SEPARATE QUESTION - Is the stick on DA disc or the velcro DA discs better?

Don't know. Don't have one yet.
And I am probably goin to sand what sheet metal I can save down to metal before painting. A messy and dusty job, but a good compressor to go along with a good da sander is a must!

You can save some green backs on Ebay by searching for air impact wrenches. I bought my old "Husky" for something like 20 bux and it has been a good one for the three years that I have owned it.

Snip>>>

Did I mention I worked for ingersol for a while as a CNC machinist? lol.. Dana corp before that.. Hate factory work.
That's too funny. I've had some real good I-R stuff. I think my 1/2" impact is I-R labeled for Mac. My first Gun was I-R, and lasted through two years of tire installation service, before running 10 more years in a dealership (ended up getting "miss-placed"). Years ago, my buddy came off the Snap-On truck just beaming from ear to ear with a brand new 1/2" impact gun. He was giving me a load about how his gun would kick my guns butt. So I bet him lunch. The Snap-On guy had forgot to mention it takes just a little break in time to reach max efficiency on the hammers. His was brand new, and mine was well worn in. He bought lunch
Had he waited a week, I'd probably not have made that bet. Still though, the I-R (or stamped metal nose Mac gun), has some serious hammers!
I'd swear by Ingersol-Rand. I've also worked with a lot of their commercial compressors, and other equipment. I've not had anything but very positive experience with them.
