Default Electric choke explination?

Can someone please explain to me how the electric choke works, This may sound like a vauge or dumb question, but i need to know. I hooked the Choke up to a 12V and the fly moves when i try to start the car, it shuts all the way and feels like it has some spring tension. I cant even get the car started like this. I had no trouble starting it before when the choke was disconnected. How does the Choke know when to go off?? Is their a tempature sensor? odds are mine doesnt have it. -Jon

Default RE: Electric choke explination?

it should be a simple spring and element, when the spring heats up, the choke opens. If its closing and not opening, then something is amiss inside the choke housing. it should pull off on its own after about two minutes or less of run time.
