I simply welded it in, welders dont usually care about a trace of oil, but paint does. before I spray it, there will be a degreaser, and plenty of solvent used to clean the thing before any primer, filler, or color touches it.

I dont want to have fisheyes on the floor...lol.

Yea I know about prep, I sell paint to OEMs. What about the old paint on the original, do I need to remove that before welding?

A welder could care less about paint on the metal. Once the fire has started, it will burn through paint in a nano second.

i think you could probably fanagel it up inside from underneath if u went at an angle
If you can get the car high enough.. like on a lift then yeah it could work. On jackstands, you are lookin at taking a bunch of stuff off..

You dont want to have a bunch of dirt, rust and paint residue where you are welding, it makes for a cleaner weld if its clean metal on metal. You start fewer fires that way too.. You can weld through paint if you need to, but I would rather clean the joints good to be sure there is no rust causing stuff between the parts. Cleaner is always better, and you need a good ground source to weld, otherwise no arc will take place.
