lost ignition key

Default lost ignition key

hey all,after a 15yr break im back in the mustang world.I recently bought a 65 coupe.its actually an old street racing car(289,4speed,dual quads,4.56 rear gear.)the car hqs been in storage since the early seventies and the owner lost the ignition key.what are my options here?the thing looks like a bear to get out.any tricks???thanks Al

You need to get the tumbler out. Unfortunately the way to get it out is to insert the key, and turn to the ACC then put a paper clip in the little hole and that will pop out the tumbler. However, you don't have the key. Can you say DRILL? You can buy the new tumbler and all at just about any Mustang parts place, and get them to cut the new key for you.

take it to a lock shop and have them remove the tumbler i think they charged me 15$ since i took it to them and then insert the new tumbler or u can drill it out

Your advice is flawed Stephen. How in hell is he going to take it to a shop if he can't get it started because he has no key? If he is not willing to hire a locksmith to come to his house and make a new key, the only alternative is to drill out the original and replace with a new cylinder and key.

run a wire to the coil i was in the process of towing mine when i had mine done lots of people have tow dollys etc since i got my grandfathers truck i plan on buying a nice full car trailer set up for electric brakes since the truck is already. and im gonna put a whinch on it so I will have my own personal tow truck its not much to look at but its only got 135k on it 6.6liter motor and a c6,ps and ac(comes on but its not cooilng i think its a little low on freon) but im gonna chine it up make it look noe its looked like this since i can remember about 20yrs not a single rust hole on the body but they lived about an hour from the coast

the hot wire idea sounds good.....except the engine isnt in the car?!!?ive never drilled one out,what size bit how far in???can i do it with the switch still in the dash?thanks!!!

just drill it out. Get a good sized bit, and drill it in. Just go slow and make sure not to go through and damage the switch.

my uncle had a similar problem. he had a locksmith come out and he was able to make a new key for him for around $100
