Default Spring and Shock mount plate?

Hey everybody,

it's been awhile since I posted but I am finally getting around to installing my 9inch rear end. I tore out the old piece of junk tonight and I had a question. I know it's always best to go with new parts and not reuse the old ones for things like u bolts shakles etc. Well I thought that I had ordered all the parts I would need, except for the sping and shock mount plates. Are these something that I need to replace and get new ones as well or will I be ok with the old ones? I knid of need to get this thing up and running again as it is my daily driver and I start back to work on Tuesday. Any help would be appreciated. I think I have everything else I need, I just spaced the mount plates.

Thanks,

Andrew

There is no advantage to new shock mount plates. Just drill new holes or slots in the old ones for the wider U-bolts. Clean and paint them.

just make sure they aren't cracked. If they are get new ones, otherwise they will be fine.

my 9 inch rear end was too big for my exsisting shock mount plates on my 65. i got the shock mounts off a 72 mustang from a pick apart place and they wotked great. just cleaned them up and painted them

OK, so I thought they would work but they won't. The new rear end housing diameter is larger and to get my u-joints over it they bend out and will not fit onto the mounting plate. So at this point it looks like I need to get wider u-joints and new shock plates unless anyone else has a better idea? Anyone please? I was hoping to get it up and running today but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.
