Question about fuel pumps
im opretty sure you're suicidal trying that. i'm sure the load on that pump would be too much and you'd starve your engine. either way, unless its new i would replace it and get a higher duty pump than you have.
yeah i wasn't sure if they put out different pressures thanks!. so should we get a higher performance pump or stick with the stock? since we won't be pushing the engine much past, if at all 300 hp. Stock 289..plans include 4 bbl carb, new intake, full exhaust, maybe cam.
Sound okay?

I would opt for a higher performance pump and a return style fuel pressure regulator. No matter what kind of pump you run, a pressure regulator is a good idea. The return style will allow for constant pressure on the system vs. a returnless that will experience a pressure drop until the pump picks up the slack.
You can get a performance mechanical pump from Edelbrock, Carter, or Holley. I don't have any experience with mechanical, but they're as easy as the factory pump. The returnless pressure regulator is the easiest to install. For the return style regulator, you'd need to run another fuel line to your tank as a return. I used my original line as the return, and the new line as my supply. I also run an Edelbrock electric pump and Holley return style regulator.
If you can run the return line, I would go with a return style system. For a little more work, an electric pump has many benefits, such as always having fuel in your carb when you turn the key, and you won't have to worry about vapor lock.
