Did you add traction bars to the new suspension in the rear?

What's the point of upgrading your cam when you're heads are still stock?
as long as your not going to crazy with a larger cam you will see see plenty of gains even when using stock heads.

the 218/228 @ .050 / .471 summit cam i threw in stock 86 longblock with a 83gt factory aluminum intake and a 600 holley that came from a 351w van in the junk yark was actually really fast off the line. i dunno times for how fast but it would shred those damn tires somethin fierce

They are not very expensive, and really easy to install. Think about it if you want to improve your 0-60 time.

If you are shredding tires, you aren't going to even get out of the hole.

Traction bars only limit wheel hop. Sticky tires do so much more for hooking. had a set of 12" wide Daytonas on the back of my firebird. I could roast them at 60mph at any tire pressure. Getting away from stop lights was always exciting and sideways. Switched to 10" wide BFG radials and it was better, but still would smoke the tires hard if I mashed it. (455s tend to do that) added some BFG Drag Radials of the 295 65 15 variety while lightening the front end even more than it was before and I was knocking down 1.6 second 60 foots in street trim. It wouldnt even spin on the street. Next up is some Mickey Thompson drag radials.. they dead hook.

the only reason that car has traction bars is because I was bending the 1/4" plate under the leaf springs on launch. The Comp Engineering bars are welded to the plate so it stopped the bending. It wouldnt wheel hop without them and they didnt help with traction at all. But I stopped breaking stuff under the car..

A mustang with a 225 60 14 or smaller/similar width 15" tire out back is not going to have much in the way of traction. You would however have a nice drift machine. more will fit, you just need to get the right offsets and do a little backyard bodywork.

As for 3.80, well you can try them. But why dont you have two 3rd members set up? one with 3.80 and the other with 2.80s or something similar? One for fun and the other for daily driving. And 3.50 gears are a nice inbetween gear. Listen to the guys who think the 4.56s will be faster with a stock engine if you like. its not my car..

yes Emperor. I really wouldn't go with 3.80's. I love acceleration and im keeping it at 3.25 or 3.55 at the most, because i also like top speeds too.

For 3.80's, you definitely need a higher rpm engine. I was running 3.25's and was happy with them. 3.5's will get you 7 more mph than 3.80's. Add another 6 mph for 3.25's. I'm assuming you have a 25.6" tall tire, which is pretty common after '69 (don't know the stock size on 67/68) and can run 4k rpm.

Hmm, I just want my engine to turn 5500 RPM's no problem and have a top speed of 120+ with some 3.25 gears. that means i need a new cam, and the gears. With the stock cam and springs, there's no way for our stock 289's to run 5500 without sounding HORRIBLE. Believe me. i dont go past 4400, since there's where HP starts declining.
