Front clip means different things to different people, If your talking to a body Guy/girl then the front clip would mean the front fenders and hood. If your talking to a suspension guy/girl then most likely there talking all the front suspension. If your talking to a 70s/80s hot roder he may be talking about putting the piece of front frame and suspension from a new car onto an old car. And I guess if your talking to a Ricer he/she may be talking about front ground effects on his/her Honda?
There are no dumb questions, that’s how everyonewho has ever learned anything about cars has done, They ask.

I have always taken it to mean taking the front end off of a car with a bad back end and attaching it to the back end of a car with a good front end as a “quick fixâ€. (albeit a laborious and time consuming job)

A front clip to me means everything from the windshield forward. In other words, a whole new front end.
