Default COWL

What is the main function of the cowl? Is it purly cosmetic or does it actualydo something? Thanks, Scott

Drivers side is a fresh air vent, passenger side is the air intake for the heater.

you mean besides rusting out and making fixing it fun most good aftermarket heat/a/c systems dont suck in air so no need for a cowl which is why im filling mine in
