Default This is wierd

Ok, for the past two mornings, my car has started and DOES NOT Charge. I can actually see the guage read discharge.. but eventually it starts charging again. It's never shown a discharge before now(unless it wasn't running). I had the alternator checked but it checked fine, but then again at that moment the guage was reading a charge. This is weird. I guess the cold mornings are slowing down my chargind system.

it could also be in the ignition switch. I had a 74 torino back in the early 80's that would not charge between me and a shop we swaped out 3 alt. 6 voltage regulators and all the wires and it still would not charge I got pissed at that point and got rid of the car. years later I found out about the ignition switch being part of it.

Do you havea solid state or mechanical VR? A mechanical can be slow to react in really cold weather....

The thing LOOKS new.. so im guessing it's a solid state, How can you check however? I know my headlights dont do that flickering thing that is assocaited with the mechanical ones.

Mechanical is a big square box. Solid state is kinda flat.

i like solid state they are more maintanance free plus i built regs for all my senders they are very nice and i cleaned my gauges they are fast and for the most part accurate but you should replace wires also prefferably with the silicone superflex wires they make it easy and they are very durable

dido on the ignition switch,,that sucker starts going out... weird stuff starts happening,,gauges going bonkers,,,charging problems just like yours,,turn signals/emergency liteskilling the car....chased thru the wiring diagrams with a meter like a maniaic,,payed 25.00 for a new switch and presto all the weird stuff disappeared
