Default 1969 REAR END

Hi,
I am currently restoring a '69 Mustang that originally came with a 302 and 3 speed manual...the new engine is a 392 Ford Racing stroker (430hp) with a T56 tranny. Any suggestions on modications needed to the rear end to handle the extra power? Gear ratios, splines, 8 or 9", etc.???
Thanks!

Thanks! Any idea on whether or not the 302 69's came with a 9" rear? I am not sure what rear end the car presently has.

you most likely have a 8inch, if built right the 8 should actually be enough for your stroked 351. i just said 9 because those are invincible.

do you have a coupe? fastback? convert?

i have a coupe and it had a 302 and i have an 8 inch

It's an 8 inch rear. Unless you beat the hell out of it, that 8 inch will serve you well.

By the way, how much HP are you producing right now with your coupe?. Also, did you go to the 9"rear, and if so, where did you purchase it?

Thanks Soaring. Got any idea what gears they were using on the 302's with the 3 speed? I think I will need something like 3.73's.

i still have the 8inch, when i bought ym car, it already ad the 351C in it, and it was producing over 300horses, at the time i didnt know it cause i had never driven a 300HP car, my dad has driven many different cars and he told me it had at least 330horses and the 8inch held up fine, although it needs new gears now, becuase it was abused, soon, if it stops being frigid in texas, my engine will be running again and i will have around 400horses, my 8inch should be enough.
