wow, i love all these responses!

fuzzydice: those are some nice pictures, and a sweet as car! ill be sure after i have fulfilled people's requests for the 65-68 models, that i will start on a 69 for you.

mojoe: including laziness? or excluding? im not really sure how long it takes me, but ill tell you one thing: if i was getting paid for it and had enough pictures, i could probably bust out the full exterior of a car with pretty good accuracy in a day. im not really sure though, i should keep track the next time i start a new model. at first i was going to school for 'computer animation' but then saw what kind of money it made and changed schools and majors. i have just been learning on my own for maybe 3 or 4 years, mainly doing cars but once in a while i do characters as well. i still have a ton to learn about it, but for the most part i think i have a good understanding of the modeling aspect.

of course, if i were to model more details such as the door jams, trunk spaces, etc, it would take a bit longer than it does. but all you guys care about is the outside (of course not in real life, its all about the vroom vroom!). its not that i couldnt model them, its just that more polygons = more time, and more objects i need to hide since it lags the computer.

6mustang6: thanks dude, some pictures would be great. as you can see, i dont know what that panel between the hood and the windshield looks like (the ones with the wipers) so if you could show me that, it would be great! oh yeah and if you guys dont want to post on the forums, my email is Reyzor7021 AT Gmail DOT com

convertible? why not! i would update a lot more but now im into school and with classes, homework, etc. it gets a little difficult. im doing a bunch of reading right now, and ill probably have to spend like 400$ on freakin books tomorrow, but come this weekend if there arent any parties im sure ill be modeling!

try to keep track of things if you start up a new model from scratch. time is money and if you can crank a full exterior appearance model out in a days effort, I can think of about 1/2 dozen product design firms here in the bay area that would kill to have you as an employee.

so you're working w/ all polys and bevels? or are you converting nurbs afterwards? what's your workflow for this?

my workflow is that i work with one poly at a time and go from there. i lay out the setup for the whole car, then detach each piece and smooth it over. max isnt very good with nurbs, so i dont use it.

Agreed^. Nurbs can start to make things too technical. I had a professor that told me once: Nurb programs like Rhino are like forming a piece of sculpture using a chizel and a hammer. Using Max is like forming a piece of sculpture out of clay. The polys in Max are much more forgiving then other programs.

maya's not so bad. it handles nurbs pretty well, but i notice myself always going back to polygons because i just feel like i have more control.

Yeah man, When i get some time to actually go down to the shop, i'll snap some pics. I've been working like crazy lately. So you want some close ups of the cowl panel? I can do that. YOu need both 66 and 67 or what?

Hey sarnz
i have built my entire garage in a single car condominium garage. you dont need a lot of space. these cars are easy to work on.
