Default Headhight switch removal

How do you remove the headlight switch from '67. Looking at the book it looks like the **** and shaftshould unscrew then pull out .But how much torque? I'm afraid I might twist it off. I'm removing the **** and bezel to paint the instrument panel area and do notnecessarily want to replace it. Might just have to tape it off.

Gary...there is a button on the side of the switch which you have to push and hold to remove the **** and shaft. The **** and shaft do not screw off. Need some small hands/fingers to get to it inside the dash area. I don't have pic of the switch but you might find one thru google search...

more instructions..
First, you will have to remove the pull-rod. This is done by pulling it out as far as it will go (the 'on' position) and then depressing the release button while continuing to pull outwards. This button is located on the switch body on the opposite side from the connectors (usually to the right side of the car). Once that is removed, you merely need to unscrew the bezel using a large flat-head screwdriver and then remove the switch.

just a tip, put a couple of shop towels (blue paper kind) on the end of the screwdriver when unscrewing. It'll save you from scratching up the bezel, also you may want to remove the instrument cluster to give you a straight shot to the thing with your hands and also gives you some working room, plus you can see what you are doing

it's not that hard really, when I removed it, I took off my shifter so I could lay across the floor. Then when I got the part I was also doing some work to the instrument pannel and said to myslef, "self, look at all the room you have in there and you're not on your stinking back!!" Just little tips.
Oh yeah and hold the bugger as you unscrew it or you'll torque the entire thing and could break something.
