help getting a 351
Pretty much.. you arent planning on a 600hp engine are ya? Well either block will work just fine. If you are going to build a 600+ engine from a 351W, then an aftermarket block would be a good idea, but for a driver, ANY of them will do as long as its in good shape. You arent going to drop the crank out the pan with 350hp...
if you grab that marine motor it will have a larger cam from the factory (not by much) but MAKE SURE ITS NOT RUSTED OUT. alot of marine motors suffer from massive internal rot in the water jackets.
If you can't take a head off to check the water jackets I would stay away from the marine block because they usally have a lot of rot on the inside. And if you wait for A roller block you will most likely pay out the nose for it because they are rare and highly desired.
yeah i seem to recall that the 351's were flat tapper longer into the 80's than the 302's - but i could be mistaken. anyways all you need to use roller cams in a early block is the retrofit lifters. they are a little more than regular rollers but you'll save on the block and find one quicker..... it all works out in the end
