The 600 cfm carbs came on the K code engines, so you most likely have the 480 cfm model. It sounds like it's your first attempt at overhauling a carburetor. If so, take a read here before starting.

awesome, thanks.

For a 302 (bored .040 over, headers), would there be any benefit of going with the 600CFM carb - it looks like for an engine without mods to cam, heads, fuel injection, etc. the 480 CFM would easily be sufficient. going to have to search around for that post on flow

No, more is not better regarding carburetors. We have a carburetor calculator in the FAQ. I think you will see that the 480 is more than adequate for your application.

Entering a shift point of 5500 and VE of 83% and got CFM at 100% = 480 (nice one Soaring) and a user CFM of 398

I couldn't find the number that Coda mentioned???

Pony Carb will sleeve the primaries - to make them 1.00 diameter. Good economy as well as great response on the secondaries (1.18) when you punch the gas pedal...

I read C7DF-D as an Autolite 4300 carburetor with 1 inch venturis not a 4100. This carb was used on 1967 Mustangs, Fairlanes/Torinos and Cougars with 289s and automatic transmissions. This carb. is rated at 441CFM and is the first of the smog carburetors.

While the 4300s can be a decent carb. I wouldn't put a lot of time/effort into it, it's not correct for your car, is a little small and can be troublesome.
Rebuild it, see how it runs and keep your eyes open for a 4100.

Most likely the 480 carb - I know the Shelby's had the 600 carb due to all the perf upgrades they got.

BTW - go get a 4100 carb (either 1.08 or 1.12 venturi), they're all over eBay too. If it's a 1.12 then get Pony to do the spreadbore conversion on it. Make sure to get a short snout pump since they will NOT work on the long snout versions, they have pics on their website as to how to tell the difference.

Go cruise this website, you might have to look carefully, there isa lot of good info there, check each page- they also show you how to calculate VE and amount of CFM and engine really needs.
