Default Wheel Spacing

Does anyone know the correct thickness of spacers to use on a 68 mustang when putting on 17x8 newer rims and tires? I have seen many brands out there and just do not know what is the best. I am thinking about 1 1/4 on the front and maybe 1/2 on rear to give it an even look. Anyone have thoughts on this.
Thanks.

Like said, depends on backspacing. You should have 4.72" or less backspacing, so if the wheels had like 6", then 1 1/4" would be good...
