As has been pointed out already, your 351C makes at least as much if not more hpthan the 289. You have to take into account the changes in how the hp ratings were measured between those two years. If you really want to be depressed look at the hp numbers for a hipo 289 with the 4V carb.

Tangent alert!

Of course, what really matters is rear wheel hp, torque, where the peaks for those two occur, and how steep or flat the peaks are. These little ricers with peak hp at 6,000 rpm and a 6,500 rpm red line might have a high top speed for the size of the engine (ignoring gearing and a multitude of other factors), but they are not fast off the line because they have very steeply peaked output curves and usually very little torque, particularly below 3,000 rpm. There is no replacement for displacement.

NO [sm=badidea.gif]the cylinder walls are thin and cannot support anything more then a 030 bore. even then it is risky at high rpms. never buy a 351c that has been bored, they are utterly useless then. i will never bore my cleve

Say what you will about the 74 - 78 Mustangs, but they offer a really neat platform for a performance car. Granted that from the factory they couldn't pull a sick ***** off of a wet bedpan but I have driven a couple that had some snot put under the hood and they are LIGHT YEARS ahead of our classics as far as handling and fit and finish go.
they couldn't pull a sick ***** off of a wet bedpan??

I gotta say, that is a new one for me. Funny and disgusting.....good combo

About the bore, I know my windsor is .04 over now, and the engine building place says that the going over .03 is completely bull. They said they build motors .06 over all the time, with no issues. And this is a shop that I have seen mentioned in numberous articles and build a lot of engines.

Maybe it's just the cleveland
