Default Dating radiators

Does anybody really know? Example 8fg= 1968, June, ???. What is the last letter? I have heard week, shift. Are there 7 weeks/month or 7 shifts/day? Thanks

if you have the month in there, week doesn't make sense
so if it's week/shift or something close to it then the week is 7th or 8th, which brings me to mid/end february
