Default motor support question

has anyone here with a 73'H-code cleveland Mach 1 ever replaced the motor supports? i had the 4x4 style mounts (intertwined metel to keep it from pulling apart completely) stock in mine but i could never find a set that could replace them, either they fit the engine but not the frame or the other way around! well when i got my engind rebuilt the guys built some new mounts for it taking a 428 support and fitting it with a cleveland support but not able to make it 4x4 style.

needless to say my engine broke loose about 3 weeks after i got the car back... BABYING IT! so now i have 6"s of logger chain olding down my cleve.

wondering if anyone else ever had this problem.

(btw, we bought this car brand new in 73, all original parts 80k miles on the car, 8k on the engine)

Unless you have solid motor mounts , it's agood thing to chain down the engine anyway. Horse power will tear the rubber mounts. I had rubber mounts and a chain. I left about a 1/2 slack in the chain so engine vibration wouldn't go threw the frame, and under acceleration the chain would take the torque.

I agree with the chain unless you go with the Ron Morris Performance motor mounts which are captured with a through bolt. Using these, I'm not using a chain for the first time. Plus, the motor mounts are adjustable side to side and fore and aft.

They sure look better than a chain. How much?

Just about $200. Before you gasp, keep in mind that if you buy aftermarket '66 frame brackets and mounts, it isn't that much more considering the benefits.

But would they fit a 71-73? There are differences in the mounts..

Doh, my bad, they're only good for 65-70.

$200 ------------------------------------------------------
A chain is free if you steal it from your friend.
They do look good though.
