Default dieseling

Well, I went and drove the mustang today, and it performed well There's a tiny chance I could have it tomorrow (woo hoo!) but there is one problem. It diesels when you kill it. Is this the fuel pump? Thanks,

Stephen

If by dieseling you mean the engine keeps running after you turn the key off, then that is caused by the timing not being right.

or possibly you could be overheating but more than likely just the timing and a combination of bad fuel

could be bad fuel - hasn't been run in years. Timing...geez I haven't even had a truck that had timing in years...Will need to do some research on that.

Usually with bad/old fuel, your engine will misfire while running down the road. Sort of like having water in the fuel. I call it spitting at you. You know......ppffffttttt, then start hitting on all cylinders for awhile, then ppfffffttt again, etc. Dieseling is caused by the hot cylinder igniting gasses that enter the combustion chamber after the engine is turned off. That, very simply, is a timing issue.
BUT, if that fuel has been in that tank for more than a year, it needs to be drained and new fuel put in. Running that old fuel is like pouring varnish in your carburetor.
