Flywheel/Clutch choice
I am new to this forum and I could really use some advice. I own a 1968 J-code Fastback GT with a 71 302 motor and a C-4 auto currently out of the car. I am returning it to original with a 68 toploader 4-speed. Hopefully next winter I can replace the 71 motor with a rebuilt date code correct 302. My problem is... choosing the correct flywheel and clutch setup now. The motor is stock now with headers and pertronix ignition being added. The motor I intend to install next winter will produce in the area of 350 hp. How many tooth flywheel do I install now? What brand size clutch should I put in now? I do not wish to replace the flywheel and clutch with next winters engine swap. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I need to get my car back together!!
Thanks
Thanks
The flywheel and clutch will be the same now and when you change to the date coded engine. You need a 157 tooth flywheel with 28oz imbalance. You can get the flywheel from any mustang vendor or ford racing dealer. Center force has really good perforance clutch kit summit would be a good place for that and the flywheel.
Thanks for the suggetion. Problem is I've been told by the shop that has my car that it needs a 164 tooth flywheel. I've looked on Summit's website and talked to their tech help and they said a 164 tooth flywheel as well. I pretty sure I am going to purchase the Centerforce dual friction 11" clutch kit (CTF-DF-700000).
I was just going off what I have which is a 68 302 with a toploader 4 speed with 10.5in clutch and 157 tooth flywheel. I guess the bellhousing you have should dictate which flywheel you need.
