Exhaust Exit Poll HELP!!
Turndowns just in front of the rear valence. While I love the exhaust through the valence with the GT trumpets on GTs, I think it is overdone on standard Mustangs. Besides, 3" pipes will look a bit much through the holes IMO and there's no way you're getting trumpets on there without major restriction.
Geez Soaring , grumpy old man. HA my friend Ben and I had the mufflers back off of his '67 the other weekend and needed a tool from my dad's shop. So at 1AM we rolled down the highway a few miles to my parents place to borrow one from my dad's shop. The next day I get a call, my dad wasn't too happy, said we didn't get on it enough when we left

Thanks superdavid i was thinking the same thing.I am very tempted to do single chambers out of the side. does exhaust ever enter the car at stoplights with turndowns? how bad is it?

And in regards to side exits, I think (at stops) you will get even MORE exhaust fumes in your car from side exhaust setup than dumps. My buddy had an 84 el camino with side exit exhaust and at stop lights, it was like instant headache.

YES you'll get exhaust in the car with turndowns and you'll also get a big mess too.

JMD / 65Mojoe & Superdavid are all right. 3" is overkill. 2.5" is plenty enough even with the horsepower your putting out and you will get more torque with the smaller exhaust. Torque is key. Mojoe is right with the idea of out the back with turndowns hidden behind the rear valence. That is what I did with mine. And Superdavid is right in saying "Good luck getting over the rear suspension with 3" pipes!!
The 2.5" on my car was as big as I could go.

Yeah, and we all know what ASSuming does, don't we?
There is no power advantage for having either turndowns or exiting out the side. There is a power robber in the GT trumpets though. Why don't you kids have some logic and just exit out the rear like all real race cars do? Does an extra loud car make you more macho, or does it your car more macho? Or just really what is it? Is it a testrone thing? I'm not grumpy. I am just trying to understand the logic of intentionally making your car socially unacceptable when it does nothing to make more power.

I think most people think louder=cooler, or louder=more bad ***. IMHO i think a good rumble with a great bass tone is all you need, that's what I got. Not too loud, but yeah you can hear it.
