Default what does tuning a carb do?

Hello there
I have a 4 barrel edelbrock carb (not sure the exact name) in my 302

I was wondering what tuning the carb would do because my mechanic told me it was currently set to the lowest level factory setting

I'm a little concerned with your "Mechanic" Tuning a carb is alot more involved than just turning a couple *****/. If you change fuel delivery, you'll need to adjust timing as well. There's more to it.

Minimal factory settings means what exactly That the carb starts and idles and runs correctly? I'm not sure where he's going with that statement. You can rejet and adjust the carb, but that takes a timing change as well. It also could mean a spark plug change too.

Factory settings are a good starting point. If you're having idle or response issues, you can adjust the air/fuel mix and see if that corrects your problem. IF you go much further than that, you've other things to look at too.
