68 convertible stuff?
I can not figure out where they attach to the car to take them off. is it under the top mech? I tried the search,,,nothing.
HI, I am new and just got a 68 convertible with orginal shocks. They are bad! it is a 289 auto with elect top. Nice little car, needs some work, not much. Runs good. This is my first ford ever. I will fill out profile when I have some time. I am 50 and from St. louis,MO.

Get someone to help you take out the old shocks. The large outer section will spin around and the nut won't come off unless someone holds that large outer section. I did mine myself, and used a pipe wreanch to hold it by putting the handle on the wheel well. The front bolt on the leaf springs will most likely be frozen so you have to cut them off. Some guys use reciprocal saws (Sawzall) others use air cut off wheels and some even use a cutting torch. Good luck with it and let us know if we can help because we have all "been there, done that."
The rear leaf springs should be marked for a passenger side and a driver side. The passenger side is curved more than the driver side. Don't mix them up.

So far you guys are right. I started with the fron bolt on the leafs because I thought if it is bad then it will be easy from there. Welllll,,,,
I decided that I would just get a cutting wheel because as was mentioned it was frozen. I went to the store and got a cutting wheel. The guy I borrowed it from gave me an air compressor that did not hold enough air to make it work so I decided to go back to the store and get a cut off wheel for my buffer and us it as a grinder and cut it off. Well... I did not get a bigenough wheel. It would not reach the bolt. Back to the store. I decide to just buy a saz-all. well I go for the cheap one. I get it home and find out that it is battery operated, iI did not read the box, and does not come with a battery nor charger. I am back to the store,,, I bought the saw I needed and went home and called it a night.
Tonight something is going to get cut off that car!!! That or I am going to shoot it and just quit... More to come.

You will find it easier to cut off the front bolt if you take the spring off the axle and drop the shackle down. That way, you can get the blade of the saw inside the bolt housing. You are going to need 3 or 4 hard steel blades for the saw because that #8 bolt is hard steel.
DONE!! Now I drove it for the first time in about 2 years. The front wheels seem to float back an forth at speed. It looks like the tie rod ends as well as others under front end are fairly new. What about the box? Can I tighten it up? Should I be ready for another fun day? Di I need to replace it or is there something I should look at first? Thanks for all the help... hey, anyone in St, Louis?
