Default Transmission leake??

I have a small/slow leake out from around the trans oil pan. Mechanic said it looks like it could be a combo from shift shaft seal and/or the valve modulator. He said if I could deal with the cleanup to wait until i am ready to work/rebuild tranny and save myself the quick fix cost.

the transmission shifts fine and as far as i can tell everything is ok.

should i look at the complete rebuild or take his advice and wait? are these leakes NORMAL for our rides?? i have never worked on the tranny, is it something a NEWBIE could undertake?

Thanks

I don't understand why a mechanic would tell you that something inside the transmission is causing the leak on the outside. If I were you, I'd just replace the pan gasket, fill her back up and go on.

Make sure you dont evertighten those bolts around the pan. It could actually make the situation worse. Torque them with a torque wrench to get the right amount or ull end up with a leak worse than you already have. But id just say go with a new gasket

I had recently changed the trans fluid/filter and gasket. He fixed a leake around the dipstick ring and checked my work on the gasket (to make sure i did not over do it). he did not say it was an inside issue but that he would have to drop the tranny to get to the shift shaft seal and that the cost of his labor may be something to put off untill i want the whole thing worked on. he could not say anything else would not leake vs guaranteeing the work on a complete job???

Is it a C4? if so it may be the vent on top leaking and making it look like the pan is leaking.

yeah, its a c4.

I think the modualtor is a quick try at a fix, bolt on ibelieve (for that matter maybe look at replacing the pan asket AGAIN). The seal was my bigger concern, dont know if i trust myself to remove the tranny if needed to get to it....

I've got a leak in mine also. Thought it was dipstick ring- but not that I'm ready this post maybe it's - I'll have to get under and look at it - is this an easy fix?
