Default shift light

I was wondering how/where you plug in the shift indicator light in. I have a 68 auto w/o console. Do I need to lift up the carpet? I know where it connects to in the shifter but the electrical stuff is confusing me.Sorry I'm new at this stuff.

Are you looking for the light to come on with a certain rpm? Then you need an autometer shift light with an rpm sensor....http://www.autometer.com/cat_accessorieslist.aspx?pid=3, this would connect up to your distributor..

I read it to mean how to hook up the light so it stays on all the time that the headlight switch is on so he can see what gear he is in at night. I don't know...mine is a manual shift.

Ah, sorry. There is a plug behind the ash try (blue) that you can connect to the selector light.

There is a harness that goes under the carpet. Should be.
