Default AOD Torque Converter

So I am going to be putting in freshly rebuilt AOD in my mustang and I am wondering on what I should do for a torque converter. THe 2 most popular brands out there seem to be B&M and TCI. I am looking at the B&M Holeshot 2400 and the TCI Breakway. Both seem to big good mid level performance torque converters. However neither one of them are lockup torque converters. Is a lockup torque converter something I am going to want or does it not matter. Right now the AOD is going to be sitting behind a fairly mild 289 but will eventually sit behind a built 351W. Which one should I go with, or are there others that someone recommends, I would love to put this in my car over spring break! Thanks for the help!

check out edge racing. you need to tell the company your cars specs, including rear end gearing, tire size, cam zsize, etc. thats the only way you will get the proper stall speed your looking for. having a lockup converter will keep your tranny alot cooler and run more efficiantly while at cruising speeds if i recall correctly.

+1 on edge. I would not buy one for the 289 and then use it with 351 later. Custom converters are built for your exact combo so one built for the 289 will not work as good on the 351. You might as well just buy an OTS converter if you're going to use it one both engines.

Your cam specs will probably dictate the stall speed you need. I don't know about the Ford AOD, but many modern trannies will burn up under prolonged use without the TC locking up.
