OMIGOD
I had an alignment shop refuse to do mine because of a crack. I thought it would be noticable so I did not ask them where, and it was actually very hard to find. It was about 3 inches above the front hole and about 1 inch wide. The only way I found it was by removing the control arm and spring.
That's exactly why the guy I was talking to told me to check it very carefully when I replaced the upper arms. Because that's your best opportunity to see if you have a problem, with the upper arm off.
Hmm, I didn't see any cracks when i had the arms off. I glanced around checking for cracks, but i didn't GET UP CLOSE, and stare at it. If it is cracked, what do you do? weld it? or buy a new tower?
I had a problem with my 65 comet that drove me nuts for the longest time. I totally rebuilt the front suspension, had it aligned, and it drove TERRIBLE! Its really hard to describe the problem, but it felt like the front end would pick up in the air, and the tires would start howling, and it would get real hard to control. It was the weirdest thing. I double checked that EVERYTHING was tight, replaced lower control arms, rechecked all the linkage, I was even about to swap the spindles out again. (I converted to v8 using 64 spindles, thought maybe there was something different) My last resort was to pull the P.I.T.A. uppers off. Once I did, I almost immedeatly saw the problem. One of the big nuts that holds the cross shaft into the arm had stripped the thread out, so the arm was free to move around, but it hadnt come all the way off, so it wasnt readily visible, even after 2 more alignments. Once I welded the nuts in, and got it re-aligned, it drove like a brand new car (finally!). I guess the moral to the story is keep trying, and check the stuff you just KNOW it wont be.
Yeah, how often do we take something for granted, only to find out later that what we just knew was working perfectly was actually the problem? For example: I kept smelling gas in my trunk, and just knew the rubber hose that connects the filler tube to the tank was good to go. I kept thinking there was a pin hole on top of my tank, but after going over it carefuly and painting a rust inhibitor on it, I knew it wasn't that. Well, I finally pushed my thumb into the rubber hose and found the crack.

Who the heck is saying the V8 chasis is heavier than the I6 chasis is out of there mind. They are the same. There are only a few things that will allow the camber to go out on the car.
1. The upper A arm attaching point on the shock tower.
2. The lower A arm attaching point. On your car it is not adjustable.
3. The upper ball joint or the lower ball joint.
If the ride height is being messed with some how that will affect the camber, like a car with no engine.Nothing else on the front end is going to cause that drastic a change to the camber of the car. I can't believe a good shop can figure this problem out!

I dont think it used to do this. Let me start all from the beginning again. If many of you can remember, i told you guys i wrecked my mustang. This was around November 2005. It wasn't exactly a wreck involving another car, it just involved me being stupid for some reason. I was going on this country road right by my house, and i was doing around 50+ mph. There's a fairly decent curve and while going around that curve, my back passenger side tire caught the side of the road, and the road was curving left. So basically the back end swung around, and my car was sliding sideways on the road. It slid acroos the road, and into the other side through the ditch, and up the side of the ditch. It was pretty bad. It was bad enough to pull three tires off the rims. The next morning i pumped the tires up, and drove it home slowly seeing as it ripped off my exhaust. Then i took it to the garage and did the shelby drop. I dont know if the wreck or the drop caused this problem, but looking back at the extent of the damage, i could have very well cracked or broke something serious. But it's still wierd, because BOTH sides sit out, not just one side. And as before, if me and my friend lift the front of the car the wheels come back in, and sit like they're supposed to.
IT does. I've had to aligned three times since then. I've replaced vitually everything, and yes, it keeps coming out of alignment. I dont think there are any shops around i can trust anymore.
