laser is much harder to detect because it is a straight line shot instead of a wide band wave. Most of the time it picks it up when you've been clocked. the only other way is if you VERY close to the line of laser from another car being clocked.

I never said that "I got on it" I simply wasn't paying attention to the speedo, I know that sounds like a cliche' excuse but it's what happened. As for all of the other opinions that weren't telling me how foolish I was, thanks. It would also help if they didn't give us a 40 min. lunch period and actually gave us time to get to lunch (our school is kind of on the outskirts of town). I mean honestly, don't they have anything better to do than to stake out a high school at lunch, they could be out stopping real crime. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I hate cops, but don't you think that they could be doing something more productive.

radar detectors are illegal here and the fine for when you get caught is $2000 plus confiscating the radar detector.

Also, almost all our police radars are laser so as scott_m_mil said, the detectors arent particularly effective.

We have a lot ofcamera detection devices. Do you guys get them??
They are either mounted on the front of a standard family car...parks on the side of the road for a while then moves location. They use them every where. Not even cops as operators, its all private companies contracted to raise revenue for the government. They have one that operates in my area that is hidden in a garbage can. Got me last week for 6 miles over in a 65mph zone. Bastards. You only find out youve been done when they send you a bill in the post.

Not sitting in unmarked cars, but we have the stop light cameras is some of the big cities to take your picture if you run a red light and those are run by private companies and not cops. Germany also has the camera picture taking stuff. I was driving down the autobahn at about 180 km when I saw this very bright flash. Well, unknown to me as a camera that took my picture, and the picuture of my car and license plate. I later received the bill in the mail. It was a 120 km zone. Yep, not all of the autobahn is unlimited speed.

I was 14 over behind a highschool where the baseball field is and where the students arent supposed to be at anyways.

A good way to get outta a ticket if you feel the cop is in the wrong is to have him show you the gun he used with the speed, if its not on there your free to go...he has no proof.

Ive heard the valentine 1 is a good radar detector.

what are the penalties where you are? Are they taking all the fun out of belting the stang up through the gears even on a clear road???

here up to 15km over (just under 10mph) we cop $179 and lose 3 out of 12 licence points.
15- 30 (9-18mph) over costs about double and 4 points.
If we get caught above that...instant 3 months loss of licence and a$500+ fineand 6 points off for when you do finally get your licence back. If over by much more than that and depending on the mood of the officer that catches you, you can go to court for dangerous driving and anyother thing they feel like throwing at you.

We lose 3 points for talking on a mobile phone, no seatbelt, failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Drink driving 0.05 - 0.08 gets you 6 months on the bus. Over 0.08 and you'll be on foot for 12months or more.

Or running a schoolbus stop sign, my dad found out the hard way even though he actually never did it. It's a long story, but in the end he got screwed over big time.
