I never said that "I got on it" I simply wasn't paying attention to the speedo, I know that sounds like a cliche' excuse but it's what happened. As for all of the other opinions that weren't telling me how foolish I was, thanks. It would also help if they didn't give us a 40 min. lunch period and actually gave us time to get to lunch (our school is kind of on the outskirts of town). I mean honestly, don't they have anything better to do than to stake out a high school at lunch, they could be out stopping real crime. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I hate cops, but don't you think that they could be doing something more productive.
When it comes to writing speedingtickets, most cops don't really care if you had the intent to speed or not. Could be that you were talking about my post as one of them that called you "foolish", if that isthe mostyou got out of my post, then you are destined to get tickets like I did when I was your age. Of course people tried to warn me, but I knew everything when I was young.

What I was trying to say is that you will be driving a high profile car, if you think that a radar detector is going to keep you from getting tickets, I think you are wrong. Besides, if the cop who stops you is aware of your detector, you arenot going to get a warning, the detector is proof of your intent to speed.

Even worse, don't get in an accident with one of these in your car, if the accident is speed related on your part, you will be more likely to face a lawsuit, or at the extreme, even prison time if someone gets hurt.

The cops are probably watching the high scool traffic for a reason, I work two miles from a high school, some of the driving done by the students there tends to attract attention. (mostly kids in rice burners who aparantly think that they are imortal).

I was 14 over behind a highschool where the baseball field is and where the students arent supposed to be at anyways.

A good way to get outta a ticket if you feel the cop is in the wrong is to have him show you the gun he used with the speed, if its not on there your free to go...he has no proof.

Ive heard the valentine 1 is a good radar detector.
I have heard of this defense, I have also heard of a person trying this, the cop refused to show him the radar, and the judge upheld the ticket. Traffic tickets in most states are "civil traffic" matters, not criminal matters, what this means is that the burden of proof for a traffic conviction is much, much lower that for criminal matters.

In short, if a person gets a traffic ticket, the reporting officers word is usually alwaysgood enough for conviction,,, period. Might not be fair, but it is reality. Your word against the officers word,,, you loose.

what are the penalties where you are? Are they taking all the fun out of belting the stang up through the gears even on a clear road???

here up to 15km over (just under 10mph) we cop $179 and lose 3 out of 12 licence points.
15- 30 (9-18mph) over costs about double and 4 points.
If we get caught above that...instant 3 months loss of licence and a$500+ fineand 6 points off for when you do finally get your licence back. If over by much more than that and depending on the mood of the officer that catches you, you can go to court for dangerous driving and anyother thing they feel like throwing at you.

We lose 3 points for talking on a mobile phone, no seatbelt, failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. Drink driving 0.05 - 0.08 gets you 6 months on the bus. Over 0.08 and you'll be on foot for 12months or more.
The fees and penalties vary from state to state but I would say that the penalties in Australia are generally higher. The monitary fines are somewhat close (for many states), but the other penalties listed are certainly more severe there.

Almost universally the statutory limit for drunken driving is .08 BAC, in general the penalties for drunken driving 1st offence will cost a couple of grand or more by the time they are done with everything, 24 hours in the pokey, and cost a person their driving priveliges for 30 days, but this varries from state to state.

I just hate driving the limit though. It's mostly 25 mph zones on my way to school and a 40 mph zone depending on which way I go. My mustang tends to creap up on you to, I could watch the speedo, but I'm a kid and I'm going to speed anyway, so why bother. I'll just have to learn from my mistakes.

I hope I am reading this wrong and I do not want to jump the gun, but in Indiana it is NOT illegal to own a radar detector.
Only West Virginia and Washington DC are the only 2 places where radar detectors are illeagal.
