Default Quick T5 conversion question for those that have done it...

I'm putting a T5 in my 68, and it looks like it will be a tight fit. Has anyone needed to hammer out the tunnel at all? Has anyone had any scraping or rattling due to the clearances between the transmission and the tunnel?

It should fit in just fine without any hammering on the tunnel. The only place where it can get a bit tight is at the shifter opening, especially with some aftermarket shifters. Worst case scenario is that you have to clearance a bit around the shifter with a cutoff wheel. No biggie, really!

Enjoy the mod. I've done it on two different '65s and don't think I'd own a 4-speed again. The shifter on those was enough to drive me nuts.

Here are some pics of the clearancing I had to do to get mine in. Other than this little mod it fit perfectly!

Had to cut the same area for mine. Used aluminum sheet to fit opening to shifter.

Where did you get the console mod?

Do you need a bell-housing moded for the t-5?

That is a stock console with a cougar pad on it. You can go two ways on the bellhousing, Use the old style bell housing and you will need an adaptor plate or use the T5 bell housing and no adaptor plate. You canuse the cable clutch or stock clutch linkage with either bell housing but it will be easier to go with stock linkage on the old style bellhousing and cable clutch on the T5 bell housing.

Thanks for the help guys! I was already anticipating cutting the area a bit around the shifter, but I'm glad I don't need to do any hammering.
