Default fuel injection options

Hi guys
I've heard about people putting 5.0 EFi engines in mustangs and even putting late model efi systems onto older enginesusing all the parts and computer stufffrom a wrecked late model car.

Does anyone have experience with fuel injection for bigger hp applications?
I am nearly finished the 408W for my race car. It should be up in the high 500hp range (525 rwhp is the target) and I was going to run a race series Holley 850 DP. Then someone said...why dontcha inject it???

I'm thinking why not...would be cool. Nice power delivery, easy starting, tune and forget. Some part of me is saying this will cost massive $$$. in short i have no idea!!!!

any opinions and costs? how much could i adapt from a late model road car and what would have to be custom made???

if you can get your hands on the efi off the 5.0 fox body your talking about they sell alot of upgrades for them injectors rails throttle bodies upper and lower intake. or spend more and have one made for it http://www.blowerdriveservice.com/ or http://www.mass-floefi.com/ will build you one to feed anything but its pricey.

thanks NorCal
A friend has just done something similar to James with an early 70's GM "tonner" (like a El Camino with a flat tray) using a 5.0 injected engine. He still has the 4 speed and the 3.55 gears, so it's desperately in need of another cog to get the fuel efficiency benefits. But it goes really well. If I were to need another engine for the stang I would definately consider doing what James has done.

I was kinda hoping for my current project that I could use existing late model Ford parts and just get the computer rechipped...cheap, easy?!?!?! Naaaaaaaaaaaaah!

because my application is a little more serious. I checked out mass-floefi and thencaught up with a mechanic yesterday who has just done an efi setup on a 600hp Cleveland...awesome looking thing but I havent heard it run yet. His calculation was approximately $10,000Aus. to do it. That mass-flo kit in Aus$ by time I get it here is US price x 2.5!!!.

$800aus for the 850DP is looking pretty good for now.

ask around some speed shops or race engine builders they might be able to build you something cheaper then importing it
