You can make your own harness, but it just takes a lot longer than to just slap in a harness that is already color coded..

very good :-)

an important thing here: check fuses.
then:
Check on your ignition switch. the green-black cable should have 12V+ when ignition on.
I am convinced that this is the case for you as starting (and running) works fine.

Then pull out your instrument cluster (speedometer cable) and 5 screws in the front.
You can flap it down.

When you have power on the green/black cable that goes to your oil and alternator control lamp, then use your multimeter to check the lamps
If you have no resistance (0 ohm) in the lamp, then the lamp is ok. If resistance is infinite, then the lamp needs to be replaced).

Same goes for the oilpressure lamp.

I'm nearly convinced that if the lamp is not ok, the alternator won't charge either (missing induction power). At least that was the way on the 70's car is worked before (all german cars).

would love to call over and help. It's kinda **** doing this remotely ....

ITS CHARGING!!

So here is what I did,, I actually took my lunch break at home today to work on my car instead of going to the gym. So I ran a new 8 guage hot wire from the starter solenoid to the alternator.. It didnt work there.. so I checked the alternator again.. and realized that the black post on the alternator was not the ground but the stator of the generator.. so I was hooking the stator of the alternator to ground,, On some cars that black stator hook up goes into the regulator, but not on mine.. at least there was no wire there for it.. So I hooked up the ground to the correct ( GND ) post and started it up.. and BOOM.. there was my 14.6VDC THANK GOD>> but now I have to chase down the oil and charging light problem.. But I have a pretty good Idea where to look...

Kalli, Soaring,,, thanks for all of your help. and keep a look out for this post because if i have any more problems I will be back on ..

Thanks again everyone..

Ain't it fun when a project comes together? Damn near as good as sex. We have a diagram of how to hook up your alternator in the FAQ, so if you get a brain fart in the future, you can always review it there.

I'm glad you got that thing going :-)

great stuff.

as for the lamp:

the oil lamp is the easier circuit. so try that first.

Like this:

ignition+ ---(green/black)----LAMP------(white/red)-------OILpressureswitch attached to ground (engineblock)

so if you have no oil pressure (car not running, ignition switched to on) the switch is closed. so the lamp lights up
If you have the car running, the oilpressure switch opens and the lamp goes off (as it doesn't get ground anymore).

So for this:
a)
- put ignition switch to ignition position and don't start (this is where the oil pressure lamp actually should come on)
- disconnect the cable from the oilpressure switch on engine and hook up a cable to this cable so that this cable is getting ground
(connect this cable to engine block directly or put in a wire that you lead to battery minus).

If the lamp glows inside on your speedo, then the problem is certainly your oilpressure switch.

if the lamp still is not on:
b)
- leave all as in a) with that cable hooked up to battery minus
follow the cable to firewall socket and check if it still carrys ground (should be a red-white cable originally)

c) check if all is correct at oilpressure lamp itslef
- get rid of speedo cable
- disconnect instrument cluster
- setup as in a) and b)
- pull out the plug that carries the oilpressure lamp at rear of instrument cluster
- if lamp is black, change it straight away
- pull out the lamp and measure the lamp for resistance (OHM). If zero ohm on the lamp. the lamp is good
if inifinite resistance at lamp, the lamp is dead
- check if you have 12V+ at green/black cable (ignition switch must be in ignition postition for that)
- check if you have ground at white/red cable

this should sort you out

Congratulations again to your charger well fixed

Where is the pressure switch on the motor anyway... I havent even tried to find it yet but Figured I would just ask.. I thought it would be with the sending unit,, but even in the schematics it shows as being a different part.. just curious..

Should be in the block slightly up and forward (toward the front of the car) of the oil filter.

yah. there's only one cable in that corner of the engine. roughly between oil filter and petrol filter
