Just for grins, check the wire from the distributor to the points to make sure there is a solid connection there.
It is the orignial dizzy and wires, so this might be my problem source.

I will be checking this and spark tonight.

if you don't have any spark then check for dwell as well. when the points don't open or don't close you won't have any spark.
Let us know if you need to know on how to check for that.

Checking for spark:
best thing to do is to get a good known spark plug (any you'd have lying around) and hook it up to one of the wires.
Hold the spark plugs thread to ground (battery minus or engine block) and see if that gives you a spark when you try and start the engine

Well, I jstu got out of the garage and I have spark.

What would I need to do to make sure I'm not flooded.

Also, the exhaust is in really bad shape, is there a possiblity too much back pressure couldprevent the engine from starting.
