Check out this post at "ford6.com." These guys really know the I-6 and they're discussing a problem very similar to yours.

We had similar prob. after we put in elec. ign. Was a vacuum issue. Had to plug up this round piece on the side (pass, side) of carb. Did that and adjusted timing, and now she runs great.

Okay, I think I know what you're talking about - I think what you're talking about is the carb to exhaust manifold vacuum line. I have the tube that goes in there, and it looks okay, but that doesn't mean it is. All my holes are plugged. I still have no luck - rebuilt the carb, but it still runs like crap. I tried to register with Fordsix.com but they have not "approved me" or something. So I guess I'll try to figure out stuff from you guys in the mean time.

After the rebuild:

It runs, when I rev it up, then let off the gas, it just dies. Sorry, that's all I really have. I have had about 4 guys over there to look at it, and we just can't figure out why. Thanks

Alright, just ran across something I did not know when I saw a post from UBY289 (Thanks man)

I changed the fuel filter, the little one about an inch in diameter and right next to the carb. Is there another filter I am forgetting? Is there one on the fuel pump? If so, how bad does this need to be changed, and could this be leading to my problem of bogging down when I hit the accel (or note above)? Thanks again.

Don't the stock I6's have a big fuel filter that looks like a small oil filter? Geez it has been 20 years since I wrestled with one. I remember it being blue in color and in front of the steering box. I might be confused, usually am.

Well I put in a new one when I rebuilt it, both the round piece and the square piece...See this page for pictures of what I'm talking about.

What all is there to tune on a carb. In my dream last night I had something come to me. I think the mixture screw is out way to far. But, it may not be. There is that, the idle speed screw, and what else?
